Men don’t always say what the mean to say, when they mean to say it. Unfortunately, that means that women have to figure out what a guy means in other ways. One of those ways is observing a guy’s body language- this could be anything from the way he stands and sits, to the way he interacts with you with casual and affectionate touches.
A question that tends to plague women’s minds is: what does it mean when a guy plays with your hair? You know, you’re hanging out with a guy and he starts to run his fingers through your hair, or maybe he twirls one end around his finger. These types of casual touches can mean any number of things, but guys probably won’t be the first to admit any of them.
It isn’t really a platonic gesture when a guy plays with a girls hair. So what is the level of emotion that he feels? Is he just flirting and doesn’t mean much buy it? Or is he really feeling your connection? Figuring out what exactly a guy means when he plays with your hair is all about the body language.
1. He’s flirting
Sometimes, men just happen to be naturally flirty. There are some guys who just can’t turn off their natural charm and everything about them seems (or is) flirtatious. Guys who are single are usually the culprits of a casual flirtation. If he’s playing with your hair, it might mean that he’s flirting with you – but it doesn’t always mean that he’s serious.
Sometimes, flirting is just for fun. Keep an eye out on whether or not he’s playing with the hair of other girls as well. If he is, he probably just doesn’t even know he’s doing it. He could just be flirting on auto pilot with every girl he finds attractive. A guy who’s very tactile might not even be aware of the way he comes across when flirting. If you’re having fun, there’s no use worrying over some harmless, innocent flirting.
2. He’s attracted to you
When he plays with your hair, does he comment on the color, or how soft it is, or how nice it feels? Does he look you in the eyes while he’s playing with a strand of your hair? Or maybe he looks you up and down. If so, he might find you attractive, and playing with your hair is one way for him to nonverbally express that sentiment.
A guy who’s attracted to you don’t always mean that he’s interested in you or wants to date you. It could mean those things, but it could also mean that he’s just looking for a little casual fling. Or, maybe he just likes to make women feel good about themselves. Either way, you’re getting a free compliment. Enjoy it! If you find him attractive two, maybe you’ll even hit it off and enjoy flirting back and forth.
3. He likes you
This tends to go hand in hand with being attracted to you. Not every guy who’s attracted to you likes you, but every guy who likes you is attracted to you. So, when he strokes your hair and compliments you, he might be giving away his feelings and showing that he likes you.
Especially if you two have known each other for a while, and he hasn’t always been demonstrative in his affection. Maybe he tucks your hair behind your ear so he can see your face more clearly, or plays with the ends of your hair while you’re having a conversation. When he does this, he’s trying to think up any excuse that he can to touch you and be affectionate while still remaining polite.
Guys are a lot more “show” than they are “tell”. They’ll be more interested in being physical that they will trying to talk through their feelings. Sometimes, they won’t even be able to tell what those feelings are – they’ll just act on them. Like touching and playing with your hair! A guy may totally be into you and not even know they are until they find themselves entranced by your hair.
Even if he’s just harmlessly flirting or trying to express his affection, you make this guy lose himself enough to just want to reach out and touch you anyway he can, and playing with your hair is the safest bet. Or, you know – maybe he’s just really jealous of your silky hair. If that’s the case, recommend him your conditioner so he, too, can have perfect wavy hair.
