What Does It Mean When I Dream About Killing Someone?

When you dream about killing someone, it can be extremely terrifying. While most people think that dreaming of being attacked is scarier, dreaming about killing someone can be just as scary. When you dream that you kill someone, it often shows that something is going on within your subconscious mind. It may mean that you are trying to kill off an unpleasant or unwanted part of yourself. In other cases, this type of dream may reveal more about your mental state and a hidden tendency toward aggression.

what does it mean when you dream you killed someone

A dream about murder typically shows a desire to release rage or anger. This anger may be repressed because you cannot express your rage toward the person or thing in real life. You may find yourself wanting to end a certain relationship, so you murder them in your dream.

To figure out what your dream means subconsciously, start by looking at who you are trying to kill. Do you feel anger or rage towards them? If so, the meaning of your dream is fairly clear. In other cases, it is less obvious. For example, you love your mom, but you dreamed about killing her. In this case, your mother may represent something that you dislike. Perhaps you feel like she is judging you or limits your personal freedom. In these cases, your dream shows that you resent that influence and want to break free from it.

Luckily, these dreams rarely mean that you actually want to kill that person. They only show the state of your subconscious mind and how you feel about the world. Killing someone in a dream is a very clear indication that you want to break free from that person, influence or attitude. By analyzing what happens in your dream, you can gain a better understanding of how it reflects on your subconscious mind.

Other Kinds of Killing Dreams

If you dream that someone is trying to kill you, then it may mean you feel betrayed or hurt by this individual. You may feel like they are “killing off” a part of you. If you see someone else killing someone in the dream, it may mean that you are denying your own anger and desire. You may also be denying some inner part of yourself and suppressing your true feelings.

When you kill an animal or insect, it may represent a part of you that you want to kill. You have to look at what this animal or insect represents to you to figure out what it means. This animal generally shows the type of person or aspect of yourself that you would like to kill off, so analyze your dream carefully to find out its true meaning.

A Psychological Take on Killing Someone in Your Dream

For decades, psychologists have believed that dreams can reflect the state of your subconscious mind. Currently, modern science only says that dreams are random firings of your neurons and only show the memories or images in your mind. According to some psychologists though, your dreams could have a deeper significance.

Recently, researchers in Germany found that people who dreamed about killing someone are more likely to be aggressive during their waking hours. Young men were questioned in the survey. Men who said that they had murdered someone in their dreams at least once had higher measures of hostility. This means that they were more likely to have a short temper or feel the need to hurt someone when they are upset.

According to researchers, dreams are an exaggerated form of the emotions people experience when they are awake. Men who had these killing dreams had lower scores for emotions like agreeableness, warmth, trust and cooperation. They scored higher on introversion. This might seem counterintuitive at first, but it turns out that introverted people are more likely to hold their anger in, in order to avoid an argument. These suppressed emotions can ultimately become reflected in their dream state.

While people who dream about killing are more likely to be aggressive in real life, don’t worry quite yet. If you only dream about killing someone once or twice in your dreams, it might just show that there is a lot of repressed anger in your real life. The easiest way to solve this problem is to find the source of the anger and work on a solution. If you find this to be difficult, there are always psychologists and therapists who can help you address these emotions and dreams.

Overall, dreaming about murdering someone most likely represents a suppressed anger or rage. In many cases, this anger is directly focused on the individual who is the victim in your dream. Sometimes, the individual may also represent a feeling or frustration from your waking life that you want to destroy.

  1. Hi Courtney
Thanks for this elaborate guide, Ive gained some wonderful insights form it. However, there is a little part of my dream that is not quite clear.
In my dream, we are having a family discussion over land issues, basically the best way to put it to good use (land is considered a valuable asset and inheritance in our culture).
The discussion got tense and amidst all the heat, my elder brother pulls out a gun! Everyone was shocked! but we knew he was just trying to make a point
However, a non family member who was the would be investor on the property got furious, drew out his short gun and shot my brother in the stomach!
In response, myself and a cousin dragged him outside and smashed his head hard on the ground till it cracked!
And thats it! we had killed him!
    Then I awoke!
Help me put this to context

    • Thank you for sharing your supportive comment. It is possible that you are having discussions in your waking life regarding land and finances. The behaviors of the people within your dream may be exaggerations of their behaviors in real life. If there is a stress that you are dealing with, then make the decision to deal with it directly. Ensure that this dream guides you to share your kindness and compassion at all times. Have a great day, Herbert!

  2. Hi i was wondering if you could give me some insight into my dream.
So i had this dream where i killed my ex’s nan even though she has already passed away and then i spent the rest of the dream trying to escape everyone.
Im sorry but thats all i remember about the dream

    • Death is often a reflection of change, so it is possible that you are aware that the nature of your connection with your ex and his grandmother are different than before. Your decision to run was likely related to your knowledge of murder. Allow the negative aspects of this dream to fade. Share your kindness and compassion at all times, as this will draw positive people and energy into your life.
